Following a devastating house fire, a lovely customer asked if I could create something from the remains of a once treasured piece. This was the first of 3 pieces. Although the fire scaring is still visible on the surface, I wanted to keep the original texturing as much as possible to identify the origins of the silver, so tried to sympathetically revive the silver to a respectful patina. I absolutely loved making these, quite an emotional process, but even more so, when handing over the finished pieces. Nothing is more rewarding, than to see the happiness when something like this is given a new life.

Cuttlefish casting is one of the oldest processes in silversmithing and forming. Using natures textures, any product that is cast in a cuttlefish mould is presented with the layers of the shell structure that can be worked back to the desired effect. Love this process.

The second piece remade from the remains of a treasured vase, following a devastating house fire. The lady who brought these to me wanted to bring together a stone from a pendant from her mother, and the silver from the remains of a vase passed down from her husbands mother, so bringing together both grandmothers loved items into one piece for her daughter. I cannot put into words how honoured I was to work on these pieces and hope that they will go on to be loved and passed on again. Thank you for trusting me to make this for you.

Lost wax casting, another traditional process that allows a jeweller to create a bespoke piece in pretty much any shape. This video, provides an insight into how a signet ring was made for a client, where we then created a family Coat of Arms that was engraved into the top plate. A special birthday gift he had dreamt of for many years. !
